Nautilus is a crustacean of the deep sea. Since the 1700s, it has been a
source of inspiration for works of literature, science, architecture and design.
The most renowned examples are the design of the first submarine by an
American engineer Robert Fulton and Captain Nemo’s marvelous submarine in
the science fiction novel by Jules Verne. The eminent Italian mathematician
Leonardo Fibonacci was also inspired by the nautilus when creating his famous
golden ratio.
